dreamSTATE vs. Heiki: Laurentide

Performed by ambient duo dreamSTATE with electronic sound-artist Heiki Sillaste, Laurentide is a huge, majestic soundscape of drones and stirring string-like washes. Their continuing musical collaboration was last heard on their critically acclaimed 2012 paper+sound CD/DL “The North Shore”. This sound piece was recorded live at The Christ Church Cathedral in Hamilton, Ontario as part the New Harbours Music series. The trios’ sound recording also integrates the further processing of field recordings of rocks being beaten by the heavy waves of Canada’s Georgian Bay.

Founded in 1995, DreamSTATE (Scott M2 & Jamie Todd) is a Canadian ambient music project known for their soundscape installations and live ambient performances in the Toronto area. Their soundscapes combine electronic music processes with field recordings and range from light to dark ambient. Scott and Jamie curate the long-running Ambient Ping concert series in Toronto.

Heiki Sillaste is a veteran of the Toronto electronic music scene and was a founding member of groups such as Digital Poodle, Kinder Atom and Lazer Caps. Since 1987, Heiki Sillaste has released an impressive catalogue of well over 45 synthesizer-based records and made over 150 compilation appearances. Heiki currently owns and operates the paper+sound electronic music label.
