about

Summer's Drone was recorded outdoors on an August night as dreamSTATE prepared for a live set in Toronto's High Park. A field-recording of woodland cicadas, from a July afternoon by a small lake in Eastern Ontario, was layered into the final mix to complete the deep Canadian summer ambience.

Founded in 1995, the dreamSTATE duo of Scott M2 (Scott McGregor Moore) and Jamie Todd have blazed trails in Canadian live ambient-soundscape performances and helped to nurture the vital Toronto ambient music scene.

Their first ambient installation, waveforms (1996), was an ever-changing multi-speaker soundscape installation mounted in a Toronto holographic art gallery. A "live recording" excerpt became their first album release, Between Realities (1998).

In 2000, dreamSTATE began curating THE AMBiENT PiNG, a weekly live ambient performance event in Toronto, providing a stage for developing artists in the genre and hosting notable touring performers. Also in 2000, they launched their first Drone Cycle - a year-long series of drone-based concerts with special guest improvisors.

Their devotion to The Drone has continued throughout the years, with annual drone concerts each May on Drone Day, launching their second Drone Cycle in 2012 and founding the community drone-improv group DRONE:KLUB in 2016. Their iPhone/iPad app Ephemeral City (2015) creates a new infinite ambient dronescape with every play.
