Matt Thibideau: Composition For Abandoned Instruments

from Quiet Drones 10 by Quiet Drones

about

This Song is part of a series of arrangements that were composed in the winter of 2016.
Composition for Abandoned instruments was created after going to a Piano Museum run by John Hall in Napanee, Ontario.

This is where many historical Pianos, harpsichords and celestas and reed organs were on display. Some were broken and some worked perfectly. The museum was made from collecting some old and broken / abandoned instruments.

I recorded many hours of all of the different pianos. I took those and some field recordings back into the studio and sampled it all into my beloved Synclavier and Emulator. I combined the sounds with some additional PPG, Oberhiem and modular processing for the result you hear in the collection of pieces.

The inspiration behind this is that there is always musicality that can come from what is considered unwanted instruments or junk.
