HEIKI - The Passing Window Drone

Heiki’s The Passing Window Drone was used in a video installation in Edinburgh. “My old friend, Will, commission this piece from me. The first version of the track I sent him came back with the reply: Too busy. Too many layers. Strip it down and make it less obvious, as to the sound sources. So I went back to the piece and did so.”

The exhibition space was Project Space C02, which is part of the University of Edinburgh. The Passing Window was first exhibited in November 2011.

The Passing Window explores the connection between the sensation of transience and collective/ personal memory evoked by journeys made at night. The installation creates a waking-dream like environment for the viewer through the use of Hitchockian back screen projection and passing light and shadow. First-person perspective video moving through nocturnal landscapes is rear projected onto ready-made dissected automobile sections as well as the idiosyncrasies of the individual installation space.

Video is specifically sourced from the region of each installation and interwoven with footage collected from across the UK, Northern Europe and Canada. Soundscape by Heiki Sillaste.
